To initiate the process of claiming EOBI pension payments, individuals need to follow these steps:

  1. Start by visiting the website at www.eobi.gov.pk and log in to your EOBI account.
  2. Click “individual information” and use your CNIC to verify your EOBI registration number.
  3. Browse the online database to find your name as a potential pensioner.
  4. Once you locate your details online, submit the required documentation for your claim.
  5. Send the documents to the EOBI facilitation system nearest to your area.
  6. After EOBI management authenticates your documents, you will receive a pension claim form.
  7. Complete the form and submit it to the nearest EOB office.
  8. The EOBI management will initiate the pension-claiming process and grant your pension upon receiving the form.
  9. The pension will be approved as quickly as possible.
  10. Once approved, you will receive a pension book or card within 30 days.

  1. Citizenship: The respective employee must hold Pakistani citizenship and be employed in private sector organizations such as steel mills, state life insurance, large garment factories, or national and international Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in Pakistan.
  2. Covered Establishment: The employee must work in an establishment covered by the EOBI Act. To register employees with EOBI, employers must adhere to the EOBI Act. As per the regulations, organizations must have a minimum of 10 employees on their payroll to be eligible for EOBI registration.
  3. Insurable Employment: The employee must have completed a minimum of 15 years of insurable employment and have reached the retirement age of 60 years for men and 55 years for women.
  4. Pension Calculation: An employee’s pension depends on the number of years of insurable employment and the average monthly salary during the last 36 months of insurable employment.

To apply for EOBI benefits, employees are required to submit the following documents to the EOBI office:

  • A Completed Application Form.
  • A Copy of The Employee’s National Identity Card.
  • A Copy of The Employee’s Service Record.
  • A Medical Certificate From a Registered Doctor.

Who Is Eligible for EOBI?

The retirement age is 60 for men and 55 for women. Those in the mining profession must serve in the mining industry for at least 10 years before qualifying for this pension.

The EOBI helpline and Facilitation System operate 24/7 to provide updated information on any issues you may encounter. The EOBI helpline operates from Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, during official working hours to assist with relevant inquiries.

The EOBI facilitation system portal is also available to address client concerns, albeit it may take some time to respond in accordance with the EOBI Act, with responses typically taking a few days.”

EOBI Pension: A Lifeline for the Elderly

EOBI pension offers financial security for those who have dedicated much of their lives to work. Retirement opens the door to this invaluable benefit at 60 for men and 55 for women.

Miners engaged in mining work can claim their EOBI pension at 55, provided they have ten years of consecutive service preceding retirement. However, this pension can only be claimed retroactively for up to six months.

The eligibility criteria for old-age pension vary based on age:

  • If you join before 40, you must contribute for 15 years.
  • Joining between 40 and 45 requires seven years of contributions.
  • Joining after 45 allows for five years of contributions.

It’s essential to note that, as of July 2008, the old-age pension requires a minimum of 15 years of insurable employment.

Survivor Pension: Extending Support in Times of Need

In the unfortunate event of the demise of an insured individual, EOBI provides survivor pension benefits. The surviving spouse of the insured person can receive a minimum pension if the deceased has at least five years of insurable employment. This program also extends to elderly parents and young widows, aligning with Islamic teachings.

Survivor pension conditions include:

  • Unmarried employee’s parents receive a five-year pension.
  • Widows receive a pension for life if the insured has 36 months of EOBI-insured service.
  • Children of the deceased insured individual receive the survivor pension if the stepfather does not provide financial support.

Invalidity Pension: Support in Times of Inefficiency

EOBI’s invalidity pension offers assistance to insured individuals facing disability or inefficiency that reduces their earnings to 2/3 of their regular income. To qualify, you must have at least 15 years of insured employment. If you have at least five years of insured services but not less than three years, contributions are necessary for the period immediately before becoming incapacitated.

The pension’s continuation relies on periodic medical assessments of the degree of invalidity, renewing every six months. After five years, it may convert into a life invalidity pension, with no retroactive rewards beyond six months.

Old Age Grant: Support for Those Not Eligible for Pension

EOBI supports insured persons who do not qualify for an old-age pension but are 60 years old or 55 for women. This grant is for those who have reached the superannuation age but still need to meet the pension threshold.

As of September 2018, the minimum old-age grant is RS. 6500, while the maximum depends on average wages during employment and years of contribution to the insurance scheme. The average wage is calculated based on minimum wages and contributions over twelve months. An old-age grant is payable in a lump sum at the average minimum wage rate for each completed year of insurable employment.

Pensions Beyond the Spouse: Supporting Children, Parents, Daughters, and Disabled Children

If no surviving spouse remains, the survivor pension is distributed equally among minor children, with boys eligible up to age 18.
When there are no surviving spouses or children, the pension goes to the deceased’s parents for five years.
Daughters receive pension benefits until the age of 18 or marriage, whichever comes first.
Disabled children of the deceased pensioner receive survivor pension for life.

Calculating Old Age and Invalidity Pension

Old age and invalidity pension amounts are calculated using the average monthly wages of the last 12 months, multiplied by the number of insurable employment years, and divided by 50.

EOBI Pension Rates

The minimum EOBI pension per month has been RS. 3600 since January 2012, while the maximum monthly pension, effective July 2014, is RS. 6240. The minimum wage has been fixed at RS. 8000 since 2012.

How to Submit Documents to EOBI

To qualify for the EOBI Pension, workers must complete their registration with EOBI, and several essential documents are required, as detailed below:

  1. Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC)
  2. EOBI Registration Card or EOBI Registration Number
  3. Service Certificate
  4. Personal employment record
  5. Evidence of monthly EOBI contributions
  6. Family Registration Certificate

Upon presenting these documents, the Insured Person receives a Claim Form from the EOBI office, which they must complete and submit. These prerequisites apply to male and female workers serving in coal mines or other sectors.

Death Grants:

In the context of the EOBI system, when a pensioner passes away, the system extends support to the deceased individual’s parents, widows, and children by offering a death grant. Notably, no restrictions or limitations exist on who can avail of this grant. Neither is there a requirement for a specific length of service nor a minimum pay threshold to be eligible for this benefit.

The deceased employee must been duly registered within the EOBI pension system to qualify for the death grant. Furthermore, relatives of a deceased pensioner must submit their application for the death grant within six months following the individual’s demise. Notably, the death grant amount is fixed at Rs. 500,000.

It’s important to note that the provision of a death grant differs for mine workers under the EOBI system. In the case of a mine worker’s demise, even if they were not previously registered with the EOBI pension program, their eligible relatives can still apply for and receive the death grant.
